Ode to Austin
Austin. The Live Music Capital of the World, home to SXSW, a peculiar nesting place for bats, hometown to arguably the best barbecue in all of the nation (Franklin BBQ) and the place where the famous Austin City Limits Festival calls home. It’s not just these places, it also happens to be one of the two cities that Scrypt calls home (more about San Diego in a future post).
Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of Capital of Texas 360, in Northern (ish) Austin, you’ll find the Scrypt Austin office. Don’t let the quiet-sounding nature of our office fool you. We’re loud and we’re proud of our company. You can get a glimpse of this culture through our ad hoc happy hours, holiday parties and costume contests. What breeds creativity better than great work/life balance?
All work and no play is no fun, which is why you’ll find our team having fun in and around the city. We might plan a happy hour at one of the many bars on Rainey Street, or maybe you’ll find a couple of us catching a performance at the Austin City Limits Moody Theater. Most of us are eating our way through the vast variety of foodie havens and food trucks that are gaining national recognition.
Sports and outdoors have long defined the City, and we all take advantage of the miles of hiking trails, lakes and swimming holes fed by underwater aquifers (think Barton Springs and Hamilton’s Pool). Austin is filled with athletes, and some of them work at Scrypt, participating in events like the 3M Half, the Freescale Marathon and the Capital 10K. Whatever you like, Austin likely has it. Why else would the city be growing by 150 people every day?
Giving back to the communities that support us is at the core of our values. We’ve partnered with Capital Area Food Bank in Austin and Feeding America San Diego to raise 100,000 meals for hungry families in both cities. We’re excited to watch this challenge grow and help those in need in our community. If you’d like to help us meet our goal, you can contribute here.
Somewhere deep in the heart of Texas, between the old Alamo and Dallas Mavericks Country, is Austin, one of the Scrypt’s two homes.
